Bowness & Windermere Community Care Trust (BWCCT) has been supporting the wellbeing of local people since 1999. Based at the Phoenix Centre in Windermere, the volunteer-led charity delivers a wide range of community projects, activities and support services designed to reduce isolation, encourage participation and improve quality of life for people of all ages.
A community at the heart of everything
The Trust works closely with volunteers, schools, community groups and partner organisations to respond to local needs. Its projects bring people together through creative activities, intergenerational programmes, wellbeing initiatives and practical community support, helping to create stronger connections across Bowness and Windermere.
Recent community projects have included:
- Creative arts, music and dance activities with local schools
- Intergenerational projects linking young people with older residents
- Support for local fundraising and community events
- Volunteer-led initiatives promoting health, wellbeing and inclusion
- Community commemorations and public art installations
The Trust has also played a leading role in bringing the community together for events such as the VE Day 80 commemorations, coordinating creative projects involving local schools, volunteers and residents.
The Phoenix Centre
The Phoenix Centre serves as the Trust’s community hub, providing flexible spaces for sports, fitness classes, meetings, training sessions, children’s parties and community organisations. Income generated through room hire helps support the charity’s wider community work while ensuring the building remains an accessible resource for local people.
Powered by volunteers
Volunteers are central to the Trust’s success. Working alongside a small staff team, they help organise events, deliver projects, support local groups and respond to emerging community needs. Their commitment enables the charity to continue providing services that make a real difference across the local area.
Looking ahead
Bowness & Windermere Community Care Trust continues to develop new projects that bring people together, improve wellbeing and strengthen community resilience. By working in partnership with residents, schools, local organisations and volunteers, the Trust remains committed to creating a caring, connected and inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
