Cumbria Community Transport Conference a resounding success

17th April 2026

Community transport providers, local authorities, health organisations, charities and community groups gathered recently for the Cumbria Community Transport Conference, an event that highlighted both the achievements and future opportunities for community transport services across the county.

The conference brought together organisations and individuals committed to ensuring people living in rural and isolated communities can access essential services, social activities, employment opportunities and healthcare appointments. Delegates heard about innovative approaches to tackling transport challenges and explored ways of strengthening collaboration across the sector.

Throughout the day, speakers shared examples of how community transport services are making a real difference to people’s lives, particularly for older residents, people with disabilities and those living in areas with limited public transport provision.

Attendees also discussed the challenges facing community transport, including rising operational costs, volunteer recruitment, vehicle replacement, funding pressures and increasing demand for services. Despite these challenges, the conference showcased a strong commitment to finding practical solutions and developing partnerships that will help services remain sustainable into the future.

The event provided valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing, enabling participants to learn from each other’s experiences and identify opportunities for future collaboration.

A key theme throughout the conference was the importance of community transport in supporting wider priorities around health, wellbeing, social inclusion and reducing isolation. Reliable transport plays a crucial role in helping people remain independent and connected to their communities.

Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the value of bringing together organisations from across Cumbria to share ideas, celebrate successes and discuss common challenges.

ACT would like to thank all speakers, exhibitors, volunteers and attendees who contributed to making the event such a success. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment helped create an inspiring and productive day for everyone involved.

The conference demonstrated the strength of community transport provision across Cumbria and reinforced the importance of continuing to work together to ensure residents can access the services and opportunities they need.
